Experts have been saying for years that developing AI that is smarter than humans might lead to catastrophic outcomes. Even many people who work in AI companies have acknowledged the risk. But still, they continue trying to build towards smarter-than-human general AI. 

We believe this is unacceptable. Last September, there was a hunger strike in front of two AI companies that lasted 16 and 30 days respectively.

The worry is not about a really good search engine, or a slightly better version of current models. It is about an AI that can do anything a human could do. Many experts believe that this might be possible in the next twenty years. 

Humans have taken control of the planet because of our intelligence. And if we make a new species that is smarter than ourselves, it is unclear what will happen. 

Also, there are many other dangers that AI poses, such as the creation of novel viruses, hacking, scamming and mass intellectual property theft.
